Hypothesis

My hypothesis is that when you put the cheese cloth in the strainer and a bucket underneath, and you pour the oil in the cheese cloth and strainer, the cheese cloth will let the oil strain and leave the small particles behind in the cloth. If you do this process more I think it will filter the oil more so it woul be cleaner.

Procedure:

       1. Get the cheese cloth and put it in the strainer.
       2. Put the bucket under the strainer and cheese cloth.
       3. Pour the oil in the strainer and when particles begin to overflow in the cloth, replace it with a new piece.

 Materials:
  • cheese cloth
  • a strainer
  • buckets
  • duct tape
  • coffee filters

Filtering Vegetable Oil

The materials you need for filtering vegetable oil are a container, a spoon, cheese cloth, and a strainer with hooks. First you put the cheese cloth in the strainer, so when you pour the oil the cheese cloth will seperate the vegetable oil from the small particles. Next you hook the strainer to a container. If you do not have a strainer with hooks, you can get someone to hold the strainer for you while you are pouring the oil. When you pour the oil through the strainer, make sure you do not pour the oil too fast or the small particles of food may cause the strainer to overflow. Finally as you filter the vegetable oil you may need to use a spoon the remove the small particles in the strainer. So that is how you filter vegetable oil in a simple way.

Move That School Bus!

Our science class is doing a project about bio diesel. We have to make our own oil by using french fry oil from our schools cafeteria. We also have to find a way to fliter the oil and find a way to make a school bus run on the oil that we create. Students are gathering as much information on how to filter the oil and the procedure on how to make the it.
I think this will be a fun and ecofriendly project because we are helping the community come up with ideas for the future. It is also a very productive project because it may help find future renewable energy sources. Since, we will eventually run out of coal and oil and if we are not prepared for when that day comes then we would have to rely on other countries to come with other resources for us.
In the future if cars really did run on vegetable oil, would car companies have to change anything in the car to make the engine run like a regular car that runs on oil? I would like to know the answer to this question because im curious about if cars would run more efficiently and ecofrienldy in the future. Through this project I think we will be able to find ecofriendly energy sources.
